Treatment

Dental implants

A dental implant is a small titanium root placed in the bone to replace a missing tooth. A crown that looks and works like a natural tooth is then fitted on top. It is the most stable, long-lasting way to replace teeth.

What is it?

The implant is a biocompatible titanium screw that acts as an artificial root. The titanium fuses with the bone (osseointegration) and provides a firm anchor for a crown, a bridge or a full denture. It restores chewing and appearance without filing down the neighbouring teeth, unlike a conventional bridge.

How does it work?

  1. Assessment and diagnosis with an X-ray to evaluate the bone and plan the case.
  2. Placement of the implant under local anaesthesia, in a simple outpatient procedure.
  3. A healing period while it integrates with the bone (usually a few weeks to a few months).
  4. Fitting of the final crown on the implant.

Who is it for?

People who have lost one, several or all of their teeth and want a fixed, stable solution. It requires a prior assessment of the bone and gum health; in each case we explain whether it is the best option for you.

Frequently asked questions

Does getting an implant hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so you feel no pain while it is placed. Afterwards there may be mild discomfort, easily managed with the guidance we give you.
How long does a dental implant last?
With good hygiene and regular check-ups, implants can last many years. Looking after your gums and daily cleaning are key to how long they last.
Is it suitable for anyone?
Most adults are candidates, but a prior assessment of the bone and oral health is needed. At your free first check-up we tell you honestly whether it is your best option.

At Clínica Dental Bizkaia the first check-up and diagnosis are free: we give you a clear, written quote, with no surprises, before we start.

Informational and educational content only. It does not replace a consultation, diagnosis or treatment by a registered healthcare professional.

Treatment

Invisible orthodontics

Invisible orthodontics straightens teeth with clear, removable trays (aligners) instead of metal braces. They are barely noticeable, you take them out to eat and brush, and they straighten your smile comfortably and discreetly.

What is it?

It is an orthodontic system based on a series of clear, custom-made trays produced from a digital scan of your mouth. Each set of aligners moves the teeth a little more, step by step, until the desired position. It is practically invisible and very comfortable.

How does it work?

  1. Digital scan of the mouth and treatment plan (you can see a simulation of the result).
  2. Custom manufacture of the series of clear aligners.
  3. You change tray every few days, following the plan.
  4. Regular check-ups to make sure everything is progressing well.

Who is it for?

Teenagers and adults who want to correct crowding, gaps or a slightly misaligned bite without it being noticeable. For more complex cases we also assess braces.

Frequently asked questions

Will people notice I am wearing them?
Very little: the aligners are clear and fit closely to the teeth, which is why it is called invisible orthodontics. Most people do not notice.
Can I eat with the aligners?
You take them out to eat and to brush your teeth, and put them back afterwards. That is what makes them so comfortable and hygienic.
How long does treatment take?
It depends on each case. At the initial assessment we give you a realistic estimate of the time based on what needs correcting.

Treatment

Cosmetic dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry brings together the treatments that improve how your smile looks: whitening, veneers and smile design. The goal is a natural, harmonious result, never artificial, always protecting the health of the tooth.

What is it?

It gathers different techniques to improve the colour, shape and visual alignment of the teeth. Whitening lightens the shade; veneers are thin layers bonded to the visible face of the tooth to correct shape or colour; and smile design plans the whole so the result is balanced with your face.

How does it work?

  1. Assessment of what you want to improve and of the health of your teeth and gums.
  2. Digital smile design: you can preview the result before starting.
  3. The chosen treatment (whitening, veneers or a combination), in stages if needed.
  4. Maintenance advice so the result lasts.

Who is it for?

People who want to improve the colour or shape of their teeth and feel happier with their smile. We always start from a healthy mouth: if there are cavities or gum problems, those are treated first.

Frequently asked questions

Does whitening damage the enamel?
Carried out by professionals and with the right indication, whitening is safe and does not damage the enamel. Temporary sensitivity may appear and goes away on its own.
Are veneers forever?
Veneers have a long life if cared for, but they are not eternal: over time they may need review or replacement. We explain how to look after them.
Will the result look natural?
That is the goal. With smile design we aim for a result in proportion to your face, not artificial-looking teeth.

Treatment

Periodontics

Periodontics treats diseases of the gums and the bone that holds the teeth (gingivitis and periodontitis). Looking after your gums is what stops teeth from loosening and being lost, even when they look healthy on the outside.

What is it?

It is the area of dentistry dealing with the tissues that surround and support the tooth: gum and bone. Gingivitis (inflamed, bleeding gums) is reversible; if it progresses to periodontitis it affects the bone and can lead to tooth loss. That is why detecting and treating it early is so important.

How does it work?

  1. Assessment of the state of the gums and bone (probing and X-rays).
  2. Deep cleaning to remove tartar below the gum line if necessary.
  3. Personalised hygiene instructions for your case.
  4. Regular maintenance to keep the disease under control.

Who is it for?

People with bleeding or inflamed gums, persistent bad breath or slightly loose teeth. Also as prevention: a timely check-up avoids bigger problems.

Frequently asked questions

Is it normal for my gums to bleed?
No. Bleeding when brushing is usually the first sign of inflammation (gingivitis). It is worth checking: treated early, it is reversible.
Can periodontitis be cured?
Periodontitis cannot be fully cured, but it can be controlled and its progression stopped with treatment and maintenance, keeping the teeth as long as possible.
How often should I have a cleaning?
It depends on each mouth. Usually once or twice a year, but at the check-up we tell you the right frequency for you.

Treatment

Paediatric dentistry

Paediatric dentistry is dentistry for children. It looks after oral health from an early age, prevents cavities and builds a calm relationship with the dentist so they grow up without fear.

What is it?

It is the speciality focused on the mouths of the youngest, from the first teeth to adolescence. It includes check-ups, prevention (sealants, fluoride), treatment of childhood cavities and monitoring of how the teeth and bite develop.

How does it work?

  1. An early first visit to get the child used to the clinic, without rushing.
  2. A review of how the teeth and bite are developing.
  3. Prevention: sealants and fluoride to protect against cavities.
  4. If needed, treatment adapted with a warm, playful approach.

Who is it for?

Families with babies, children and teenagers. The earlier check-ups start, the better: prevention avoids treatments and builds good habits for life.

Frequently asked questions

At what age should I bring my child for the first time?
A first visit is recommended around the first year or when the first teeth appear. The first few times are mainly about building confidence.
Do cavities in baby teeth need treating?
Yes. Even though they will fall out, baby teeth play important roles and a cavity can cause pain or affect the permanent tooth.
What if my child is afraid of the dentist?
We work very calmly and patiently, explaining things at their level. The aim is for them to associate the dentist with a calm experience.

Treatment

Prevention & check-ups

Prevention means the regular check-ups and cleanings that catch problems while they are still small. Preventing is easier, more comfortable and cheaper than curing: a timely check-up avoids bigger treatments.

What is it?

It brings together check-up visits and professional hygiene. At the check-up, teeth, gums and bite are examined to detect cavities, inflammation or other problems at an early stage. The cleaning (prophylaxis) removes the tartar the brush cannot reach.

How does it work?

  1. A full review of teeth, gums and bite.
  2. A diagnosis explained so you understand the state of your mouth.
  3. Professional cleaning if needed.
  4. A care plan and check-up frequency tailored to you.

Who is it for?

Everyone, whether or not they have symptoms. Most oral problems do not hurt at first: that is why a regular check-up is the best tool to keep your mouth healthy.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I go to the dentist?
As a general rule, once a year, though in some cases every six months is advisable. At your check-up we tell you the right frequency.
Is the first check-up free?
Yes. The first check-up and diagnosis are free and with no obligation: we explain what your mouth needs so you can decide calmly.
Do I need to go if nothing hurts?
Yes. Many problems (cavities, gums) do not hurt until they are advanced. A timely check-up avoids bigger treatments.

Treatment

Root canal (endodontics)

Root canal treatment (what people call "removing the nerve") saves a badly damaged or infected tooth by removing the pulp inside and sealing it. It avoids having to extract the tooth and relieves the pain.

What is it?

It is the treatment of the inside of the tooth. When decay or a knock reaches the pulp (the nerve), it becomes inflamed or infected and hurts. Root canal treatment cleans the canals of the tooth, disinfects them and seals them, allowing the natural tooth to be kept instead of extracted.

How does it work?

  1. Diagnosis with an X-ray to confirm the state of the tooth.
  2. Local anaesthesia so you feel no pain.
  3. Cleaning and disinfection of the tooth canals.
  4. Sealing of the canals and, usually, a build-up or crown to protect the tooth.

Who is it for?

People with intense toothache, prolonged sensitivity to cold or heat, or an infection in a tooth. It is the way to keep a tooth that would otherwise have to be extracted.

Frequently asked questions

Does root canal treatment hurt?
It is done under local anaesthesia, so you feel no pain during treatment. In fact, it usually relieves the pain the patient came in with. There may be some mild discomfort for a few days afterwards.
Is the tooth just as strong afterwards?
A root-treated tooth becomes more fragile, which is why it is often protected with a build-up or a crown so it can withstand chewing.
Is it better to do a root canal or remove the tooth?
Whenever possible, keeping the natural tooth is preferable. In your case we explain the options honestly.

Treatment

Oral surgery

Oral surgery includes complex extractions (such as wisdom teeth) and other procedures in the mouth. They are carried out under local anaesthesia at the clinic itself, in a controlled and safe way.

What is it?

It brings together the surgical procedures of the mouth: removal of wisdom teeth, complicated extractions, removal of cysts or small lesions and preparation of the bone for implants. They are planned with a prior study so they are as simple and comfortable as possible.

How does it work?

  1. A prior study with an X-ray to plan the procedure.
  2. Local anaesthesia (or sedation if indicated) so you feel no pain.
  3. A controlled, outpatient procedure.
  4. Post-operative instructions and follow-up for a good recovery.

Who is it for?

People who need a complex extraction, have wisdom teeth causing problems, or require a small procedure before another treatment (for example, implants).

Frequently asked questions

Will I have a lot of pain or swelling afterwards?
Some swelling and discomfort in the first few days is normal and is well managed with the guidance we give you. We explain how to look after yourself for a comfortable recovery.
Do wisdom teeth always have to come out?
Not always. Only if they cause problems or there is a risk of them doing so. At the assessment we decide with you what is best.
Will I be fully put to sleep?
Most procedures are done under local anaesthesia, awake but feeling no pain. If a case requires it, other options are assessed.

At Clínica Dental Bizkaia the first check-up and diagnosis are free: we give you a clear, written quote, with no surprises, before we start.

Informational and educational content only. It does not replace a consultation, diagnosis or treatment by a registered healthcare professional.

Treatment

Dental prosthetics

Dental prosthetics replace missing teeth to restore chewing and appearance. They can be fixed (on teeth or implants) or removable, depending on each case.

What is it?

They are the replacements for lost teeth. Fixed ones (crowns and bridges) are cemented and not removed; removable ones can be taken out for cleaning. When they rest on implants, they gain stability. The right type depends on how many teeth are missing and the state of the mouth.

How does it work?

  1. Assessment of how many teeth are missing and the state of gums and bone.
  2. Choice of the type of prosthesis (fixed or removable, on teeth or on implants).
  3. Taking measurements or a scan to make it to measure.
  4. Fittings and adjustment until it is comfortable and functional.

Who is it for?

People who have lost one, several or all of their teeth and want to chew and smile normally again. We help you choose the option that best fits your case and your budget.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, fixed or removable?
It depends on each case: number of missing teeth, state of the bone and budget. Fixed ones are more comfortable; removable ones are simpler. We assess it together.
How long do they take to make?
It varies depending on the type of prosthesis and the case. At the assessment we give you realistic timeframes.
Will it be noticeable that I wear a prosthesis?
Modern prosthetics aim for a very natural look. The goal is for you to get your smile back without it being noticeable.

Treatment

Braces orthodontics

Braces orthodontics corrects the position of the teeth and the bite using small fixed pieces joined by a wire. It is very effective, including in complex cases, and today there are more discreet options.

What is it?

It is "traditional" orthodontics, based on brackets bonded to the teeth and an archwire that, with regular adjustments, gradually moves them into place. It is a very versatile technique that resolves everything from crowding to more complex bite problems. There are metal brackets and more aesthetic (ceramic) ones.

How does it work?

  1. An orthodontic study (X-rays, photos and records) and a treatment plan.
  2. Placement of the brackets and the archwire.
  3. Regular check-ups to adjust and progress.
  4. A final retainer to keep the teeth in their new position.

Who is it for?

Children, teenagers and adults with crowding, gaps or bite problems. For complex cases it is usually the most predictable option; if you want something more discreet, we assess invisible orthodontics.

Frequently asked questions

Do braces hurt?
Putting them on does not hurt. After each adjustment there may be a few days of discomfort or pressure, which is a sign the teeth are moving, and it passes soon.
Are there less noticeable braces?
Yes, there are tooth-coloured ceramic brackets, more discreet than metal ones. At the assessment we see which option suits you.
Do they work for adults?
Of course. There is no age limit for straightening teeth: more and more adults are having orthodontic treatment.

At Clínica Dental Bizkaia the first check-up and diagnosis are free: we give you a clear, written quote, with no surprises, before we start.

Informational and educational content only. It does not replace a consultation, diagnosis or treatment by a registered healthcare professional.

Treatment

Dental emergencies

A dental emergency is a problem that needs prompt attention: severe pain, a knock, a broken tooth or an abscess. We attend to these situations as soon as possible to relieve the pain and resolve the cause.

What is it?

These are situations that cannot wait for a normal appointment: intense pain, swelling or an abscess, trauma (a broken or knocked-out tooth), loss of a filling or crown, or bleeding. The first thing is to relieve the pain; then the cause of the problem is treated.

How does it work?

  1. Contact the clinic describing what is happening to you.
  2. We give you an appointment as soon as possible and, if needed, guidance for the meantime.
  3. Care to relieve the pain and stabilise the situation.
  4. A plan to resolve the cause definitively.

Who is it for?

Anyone with acute toothache, trauma or swelling that cannot wait. If a tooth has been knocked out by a blow, acting quickly matters: call us.

Frequently asked questions

What do I do if a tooth has been knocked out?
Pick it up by the crown (not the root), do not scrub it, and keep it in milk or saline. Contact the clinic immediately: time counts.
What can I take for severe toothache?
A painkiller you usually take may bring temporary relief, but it does not resolve the cause. What matters is for us to see you as soon as possible. When in doubt, consult a professional.
Do you treat emergencies for non-patients?
When the clinic is open, we will see you as soon as possible even if it is your first visit. Leave us your contact details so we can let you know when we open.
